SureShell® Polymer Carrier and Rail for Moss 930 (6-Shell, 12-GA, 5 in)

SureShell Polymer Carriers are injection molded glass filled polymer yokes, secured to the receiver by a lightweight aluminum back plate with brass threaded inserts. Available only in a six-shell configuration, the polymer carrier also includes an innovative dual rubber friction system that reliably holds shotshells in place. Models are available with and without integral Picatinny rails for mounting optics. These shotshell carrier/rail systems mount by using the drilled and tapped holes on top of the shotgun’s receiver.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

This SureShell Polymer Carrier system, available in a six shell configuration, features shell holders injection molded from glass filled polymer, secured to the receiver by a lightweight aluminum back plate with brass threaded inserts. The new SureShell Polymer Carrier also includes an innovative dual rubber friction system that reliably holds shotshells in place.

These SureShell Carrier system features a Picatinny rail machined from aircraft grade 6061-T6 aluminum, which are  mil-spec hard anodized and provide an extremely durable non-glare matte finish.  These SureShell Carrier and rail system offers a perfect solution for adding optical sights and SureShell shotshell carriers to Mossberg 930 shotguns equipped with Mesa Tactical’s shorter length-of-pull Urbino pistol grip system.

SYSTEM CONCEPT

  • Polymer SureShell Carrier with Integrated Picatinny Rail

SureShell Carriers with Integrated Rails feature a MIL-STD-1913 (NATO STANAG 4694) Picatinny sight rail along the top, and a six-shot SureShell polymer shotshell carrier yoke on the left side of the receiver. The rail is notched at the rear to accommodate Scattergun/Wilson style ghost ring sights. SureShell shotshell carriers are assemblies comprising a polymer yoke and backing plate and a Santoprene® elastomer tube. The yoke features six vertical bores .810” in diameter to accept 12-gauge shotgun shells. The shells are securely retained by an innovative dual rubber friction system that reliably holds shotshells in place. In many cases, shells can be confidently retained in a brass down as well as a brass up configuration, though brass up is most secure.

  • Santoprene® Elastomer

The elastomer used to interfere with the shell bores and thus retain the shells in the SureShell shotshell carrier is made of tough Santoprene thermoplastic. We are required to publish the following message to comply with California’s Proposition 65:

WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.

    • Elastomer Stiffnes

SureShell carriers are assembled at the factory with a black Santoprene elastomer tibe with a shore value, or stiffness, of A64. This has proven to be optimal for most customers and in most situations. However, some customers require a stiffer elastomer and for those operators we have included an alternative white elastomer tube with a shore value of A73. The black elastomer tube can be swapped for the white one if tighter shell retention is required.

  • Chicago Screws

Several platforms use custom fasteners called Chicago screws. These are paired male and female fasteners that, when screwed together, meet at their respective shoulders for a precise fit on whatever platform they are made for (each shotgun platform will use different length Chicago screws). Ideally, when they are tightened against each other, they also secure the shell carrier without pinching the receiver. Two hex keys are provided for each screw size. Sometimes it is necessary to screw the fasteners in from both sides simultaneously.

*It is important to realize that once the Chicago screws are tightened against each other, they aren’t going to get any tighter, and applying too much torque will snap them at the center. It is useful to practice tightening them outside the shotgun before installation, to get a hang for how tight they can get, and also to clean the threads of any dirt or debris.

OTHER TYPES OF SURESHELL CARRIERS

  • SureShell Aluminum ShotShell Carrier

The SureShell Aluminum shotshell carriers are milled from 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum, then bead blasted and mil-spec hard anodized for a rugged non-glare finish. They are secured to application-specific brackets, and include high temperature adhesive-backed die-cut rubber gaskets to protect the host shotgun’s finish.

SureShell shotshell carriers are available in three configurations: four-shell, six-shell and eight-shell. The six-shell and eight-shell configurations can be installed on the left side of the receiver, while the four-shell carriers can be installed on either side of the receiver. Carriers can also be installed pointed back toward the stock.

  • SureShell Aluminum Carriers with Integrated Picatinny Rails

The Integrated Rail SureShell shotshell carrier design for the Mossberg 930 platforms is radically different from the side mount designs. Instead of a stamped backing plate, the shell carrier yoke is attached to a machined bracket with an integral Picatinny (MIL-STD 1913 or NATO STANAG 2324) sight rail.

The design allows the ShotShell assembly to be installed on the top of the shotgun by taking advantage of the factory tapped Picatinny (MIL-STD 1913 or NATO STANAG 2324) rail holes. With the Benelli shotguns, the shell carrier assembly is mounted directly onto the shotgun receiver. With the Mossberg platforms, a steel mounting cleat is first installed and the shell carrier is fastened to the cleat.

  • Stock Mount Shell Carriers

These shell carriers mount to the sides of standard M4 SOPMOD buttstocks, to the Urbino Pistol Grip Stock cheek riser, or Benelli pistol grip fixed stock (does not fit Benelli M4 stock or Urbino Tactical stock).

Forend Compatibility

Factory shotgun forends, except “tactical” forends, often feature significantreceiver overlap when the bolt is pulled back. These forends will  need to be cut down or replaced with aftermarket “tactical” forends to be used with some SureShell shotshell carriers. Before you install a SureShell shotshell carrier, measure your forend’s receiver overlap and compare it to the furthest forward point of the shotshell carrier. Then cut any potential overlap or interference off the end of the forend with a miter saw or a rotary arm saw for a perfect fit.

 Platforms

The SureShell Polymer Shotshell Carrier is available for the following 12 gauge shotgun platforms:
